About Us
In 1955 Richard B. Holden, Jr., began his career as a life insurance agent. In 1965 he moved his business to its current location at 1085 Brighton Avenue in Portland, across from the Pine Tree shopping center. In 1968 the business was officially incorporated and named Holden Agency and both business and personal lines of insurance were added to the mix.
In 1975 Thomas W. Holden, the current President, started working at the agency full time. Within a year, the original ranch-style office was redesigned to provide much-needed room for expansion. The agency continued to grow and prosper. In 1990, Thomas W. Holden and John R. Benoit purchased the Holden Agency from Richard B. Holden, Jr.
By 2001, the agency had expanded the Employee Benefits segment of the business and decided to create a DBA—Employee Benefits Solutions, Inc.—to reflect our strong commitment to providing employee benefits to businesses. A year later, we almost doubled our existing office space.
Our business name is Holden Agency. But putting a sign on the front lawn that reads just Holden Agency might leave people wondering if we sell real estate or insurance, so ‘Insurance’ was added to the sign.
As time went on and Internet marketing became more important, the ‘Insurance’ part of the sign was given more value—so we made a point to include ‘Insurance’ at the end of our name so that people looking for insurance could find us.
The real answer is we are just simply the Holden Agency, but we market ourselves as Holden Agency Insurance.
