Automobile Tire Safety
When was the last time you looked at your vehicles tires?
Years ago you would notice wear and tear of your tires well before they got too old to rot and fall off your car. Tires made now can last from 60,000 to 100,000 miles and you may not be prompted to check them during that time. Do you think you should check them? Think about it, the average person drives 10,000 to 12,000 miles a year. Some of those tires could be pretty old by the time they reach the mile limit.
Tough steel-belted tires can harden over time and become brittle causing the tread and belt to separate. Losing a tire on the highway is not fun and it seems to be happening more these days than I ever recall. Have you noticed the split strips of tire carcasses along the break down lanes? Have you seen the vehicle ahead of you lose a tire or been traveling beside a big 18 wheeler when a tire blows? Scary times.
Even spare tires are oxidizing and hardening without ever touching the road. If you’ve got one in your vehicle or your kid’s car, it’s a good idea to have them checked out by a professional.
